Gary Hoffman is one of the outstanding cellists of our time, combining instrumental mastery, great beauty of sound, and a poetic sensibility.
Mr. Hoffman gained international renown upon his victory as the first North American to win the Rostropovich International Competition in Paris in 1986. Since then he has appeared as soloist with the world’s leading orchestras and collaborates regularly with renowned conductors as André Previn, Charles Dutoit, Mstislav Rostropovich, Pinchas Zuckerman, Andrew Davis, Herbert Blomstedt, Kent Nagano, Jesus Lopez-Cobos, James Levine and many others.
Composers such as Graciane Finzi, Renaud Gagneux, Joël Hoffman, Laurent Petitgirard, Dominique Lemaître, just to name some, have dedicated their concerts to him.
Born in Vancouver, Canada, in 1956, Gary Hoffman was the youngest faculty appointee in the history of the Indiana University School of Music, where he remained for eight years. He also plays and gives master classes all over the world.
Performing on a Nicolò Amati cello built in Cremona in 1662 that belonged to the legendary Leonard Rose, Gary Hoffman and Australian pianist David Selig will propose us works by Brahms, Stravinsky, Mendelssohn and others.
