A Violoncello Solo senza Basso
The great cellist Mischa Maisky needs no presentation! Who hasn’t appreciated his unmistakable sound and musical poetry? The LongLake Classica Festival (Cello Love) together with the Martha Argerich Project will bring Mischa Maisky to Lugano where he will play for the first time the amazing Suites by Johann Sebastian Bach.
The year 2000, one of the most significant periods in his career, was mostly dedicated to playing Bach on a world tour of over 100 concerts! Mischa Maisky’s great admiration for this composer resulted in the recording, for the third time, of six Suites (BWV 1007-1012). The “Suites a Violoncello Solo senza Basso composèes par H. J. S. Bach Maitre de Chapelle” (as written by hand in a note on the first page of the manuscript by Anna Magdalena Bach) were probably composed around 1720 at the Köthen court.
At tonight’s concert the cellist will perform the Suites n. 1 in G major, n. 4 in E-flat major and the Suite n. 5 in C minor. The project will continue next year in the LongLake Festival 2014, when Mischa Maisky will perform the remaining three Bach Suites within the Cellolove review.
