FROM THE STAGE TO THE CLASSROOM
Suzanne Ramon represents the unique fruit of the meeting of three extraordinary musical cultures: Austro-Hungarian, Israeli and French. Born in Budapest, at the age of eight she was granted a special permit to study at the Ferenc Liszt Academy, and after two years won the Béla Bartok award. In 1956, her family decided to immigrate to Israel, and at the age of thirteen Shoshana debuted in Tel-Aviv in a performance of the Concerto op.129 by R. Schumann.
Her studies continued in 1962 at the Conservatorie National Supérieur de Musique in Paris under the great André Navarra. Upon her arrival in the French capital, the Hungarian pianist George Cziffra was so impressed by her extraordinary talent that he took her under his wing, offering her accommodation and treating her like a daughter.
In 1964, Suzanne was awarded the Premier Prix de Violoncelle at the Paris Conservatoire and was placed at the Geneva International Music Competition. The following year she was also awarded the Premier Prix de Musique de chambre at the Paris Conservatoire, with Catherine Collard at the pianoforte. She then embarked upon an international career (playing in Great Britain, the United States, Canada, France, Italy, Hungary, Germany, Sweden, Denmark, Belgium, and other countries), that enabled her to meet leading figures who would have a great impact on her: Pablo Casals, Isaac Stern, Yehudi Menuhin, and Mstislav Rostropovitch in particular. With her superb 1690 Guarneri cello, Suzanne has recorded all of the main cello repertoire for Arkes Records.
Suzanne Ramon possesses a vitality that is in a class of its own and this along with her deep love of the instrument creates an intimacy with those who listen to her performances. Her visit to Lugano is particularly important because of the master class of Saturday 21 July (organised in collaboration with the Nicolò Paganini Legacy - Performance High School) during which she will share her experience and knowledge of music with the students.
Members of the public can listen to the lessons that will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the ex-Town Hall of Castagnola.

In 1964 Suzanne Ramon won the Premier Prix de Violoncelle at the Paris Conservatory after studying with André Navarra, one of the greatest cello teachers. Today Suzanne Ramon will hold a master class with 6 young cellists enrolled at the Higher Education Project of the Nicolò Paganini Legacy Performance High School.
