GORDONKA E WIOLONCZELA
This evening’s cello recital presents a program focused on twentieth century Hungarian Music.
In the interpretation of Tytus Miecznikowski (cello) and Márta Gulyás (piano), we will hear the Sonatine, the Sonata op. 4 and the Hungarian Rondo of Zoltán Kodály (1882–1967), the Melòdia of Pál Járdányi (1922–1966), and the First Rapsody (1928) of Béla Bartók (1881-1945). The program will also include the Recitative and prayer (1999) and the Adagio ricordamente (2001) of the Polish composer Marek Stachowski (1936 - 2004) in the author’s version for cello and piano.
Born in Krakow in 1964, Tytus Miecznikowski began to play the violin at age six, winning First Prize at the International H. Wieniawski Competition in Lublin in 1976. In 1980 he decided to continue his musical studies dedicating himself to the cello with Krzysztof Okon, and later with the great Hungarian cellist Miklós Perényi, earning the diploma of the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music of Budapest. Subsequently, he completed his training in Bern, studying with Johannes Bühler and Walther Grimmer. He has recorded for Radio DRS, the Südwestfunk and the Magyar Radio. His recording of Bach’s Suites, issued in 1999, was reprinted in 2010.
A former student of Istvan Lantos at the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music of Budapest and of Dmitry Bashkirov at Tchaikovsky Conservatory of Moscow, Márta Gulyás has given concerts and masterclasses in various European countries, the United States and Japan. She teaches chamber music at the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Budapest and at The Queen Sofía College of Music in Madrid.
