IN THE OLD STYLE
Some of the most beautiful pages in the baroque cello repertoire come to life, with the greatest respect for the style of execution of early music, thanks to the knowledgeable interpretations of Gaetano Nasillo (accompanied by Sara Bennici), recently elected musician of the year 2011 by the important Dutch publication “Prelude.”
After graduating from the Conservatory G. Verdi of Milan under Rocco Filippini, Gaetano Nasillo went on to study original instrument performance, adding to his cello studies that of the viola da gamba with Paolo Pandolfo at the “Schola Cantorum Basiliensis.”
He performs regularly in Europe, the United States, South America, Australia and Japan, often as soloist with prestigious European groups such as l’Ensemble 415, Concerto Vocale, Zefiro, Le Concert des Nations and Ensemble Aurora. At the moment his discographic production includes about 90 titles: he has recorded for Harmonia Mundi France, Zig-Zag Territoires, Teldec, Sony, Arcana, Ricordi, K617, Ambrosie, Symphonia, Alpha, Christophorus, Nuova Era, Bongiovanni, Stradivarius, Tactus, Pan Classic, etc. His numerous solo recordings include two volumes of sonatas by Luigi Boccherini and opus V of F. S. Geminiani (an insert in the French magazine Diapasan of the “30 indispensable discs for knowing the cello”), and the concertos of N. Porpora, N. Fiorenza and L. Leo with Ensemble 415. For Arcana he has recorded sonatas of Carlo Graziani and of Antonio Caldara, together with his close partners Sara Bennici and Luca Guglielmi (5 stars of Diapason, “Muse d’Or” Prize) while the sonatas op. I for cello and basso continuo by Salvatore Lanzetti, with Sara Bennici and Andrea Marchiol, won the Premio del Disco Amadeus 2006 in the early music category. He teaches baroque cello at the International Academy of Music in Milan and at the Conservatory G. Cantelli of Novara. He regularly holds courses at the Italian Foundation for Early Music of Urbino and at the Institucion Fernando el Catolico a Daroca (Spain), l’Oficina de musica de Curitiba (Brazil), the International Festival UNICAMP (Universita di Campinas, Brazil), the Music School of Fiesole, and the Fondazione G. Cini of Venice. Gaetano Nasillo plays a cello attributed to Antonio Ungarini (Fabriano ca.1750) while Sara Bennici plays a Barak Norman cello made in London ca. 1710.
